Today is the day of the great climb, we are at the foot of the Teide and are all ready to go. I have my backpack on and I am mostly motivated to start the hike. Then, after a few words from our teachers, it began. The first hour was pretty easy, and I felt great. But I had a feeling that this would change when I saw the next part of the climb. I knew the fun was over. It started getting steeper and steeper and with it I got more and more tired. Now that I look back I`m really proud of myself that I kept going through the hardship because in those moments I only had thoughts of turning back, but I prevailed. After a while of the time passing at a snail`s pace we finally saw a sign of progression. We saw the pole indicating the cabin where we would be staying for the night. At the sight of it I got an unexpected energy boost and I got back the motivation that I had at the start of the journey. The rest of the way to the hut passed a lot quicker. Though still exhausting it was even more fulfilling when I reached it. Although I was one of the last, it didn’t matter. After the last person reached the cabin, we all let out a collective sigh. We were all relieved, we had made it past half up to 3,260m.

Soon after we had all eaten, a few others and I climbed a little higher to enjoy the sunset. That sunset was the most beautiful I have ever seen and definitely one of the best moments of my life.
The next day began at 4:45am because we didn’t want to miss the breath-taking sunrise. From the hut the journey only became more difficult be we all stayed strong and endured, our motivation was a huge driving force. The last 700m were definitely the steepest and everybody struggled, but we all pulled through in time to admire the picturesque sunrise. That moment on top of the Teide will be one I remember for the rest of my life.
