I often asked me why I came on this ship, but now I know. I came for them, these episodes, moments that can’t exist in any other space and time as here. I´m talking about sunsets were to three, to four or to five we lay on the front of the ship. A nice music is rhythming our breathings. The light, soft and yellow, lights up our faces, our smiles, our laughs. But suddenly nobody talks, the sun itself stops moving at the horizon and the only thing that is still moving is the wind. Through our ears, on our skin, in our hair. And the sea, only animated by a couple of lazy waves projects and magnifies the sky above us. It doesn´t have its blue colours but it wears an orange, yellow and almost red dress. It seems almost as if it was burning. But, and we can all assure it, we are most certainly not in hell. Quite the contrary. It feels like, when you live it, that everything is exactly like in a dream and that all the elements, the setting, all the people are were they should be. The sun, bit by bit, follows its daily path and soon enough, we can only notice its stripes and how it cut the sky. The sea change clothing and is now covered with white pickles, the stars. I live for these moments of calmness but also for these fantasy episodes were for example when, through canal 16, a ship that we´ve never seen, or even heard of, starts to put music, just like that, out of nowhere. And, in the warm night, a break in the watch (Wache), a time to breath, a time to live.
These nights and day episodes follow themselves and new flourish every minute. Sometimes, they stretch over a whole day. Just like today, a Monday like there were and like there will be. A school Monday. And the lessons follow each other; without you noticing it, you´ve eaten 3 h of English and Geography. Afternoon, and incredibly smoothly, you´ve also manage to listen and act in the Spanish and Bio lesson. And, surprisingly, you´ve also enjoyed it! Suddenly you are here, again, around you is darkness and the only thing you know from the others are their voices that break through the cold silence. They are the lights, they are the fire and the fuel that animate our ship, the others, us. I often asked myself why I came on this ship, but now I know. I came for them, the people.
